Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst 2019 4-star tackle Danielson Ike picked up an offer from Michigan on May 16 and made his way to Ann Arbor for the first time on June 22.
He was coming off visits to Louisville on June 7 and Nebraska on June 14.
“Michigan was great because most of my questions were answered with regard to education, how I fit in with the team after just playing two years of football and finally questions regarding my international status,” Ike said.
Ike moved to the United States from Nigeria just a couple of years ago, so he has questions about his eligibility, visa and credit hours for his coursework.
“I was satisfied with all the answers I got,” Ike said.
The 6-foot-6, 300-pound offensive lineman has offers to play for Alabama, Bowling Green, Iowa State, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Purdue, South Dakota State and Temple.
“Michigan just became one of my favorite schools,” Ike said. “Michigan is special because of the quality of education and the winning mentality of football.”
As for if he will commit to the Wolverines, Ike said, “We will see about that.” He wants to check out Oklahoma and Alabama before making a decision. Ike will visit those schools after the NCAA dead period, which runs from June 25 to July 24.
College coaches are not allowed to have face-to-face contact with a recruit or their family on or off the college campus during that time. They are also not allowed to visit their high school or watch the recruit in person.
However, during the dead period, coaches are allowed to use social media, text, call and even write to recruits.
During the visit to Michigan, Ike met with coach Jim Harbaugh, offensive line coach Ed Warinner, offensive analyst Ron Prince and others.
Ike added his trip to Michigan was one of the best three visits he has had, but does not want to share the other two at the moment.
“I plead the Fifth on that one,” he said.
Ike is ranked No. 285 in the nation, No. 30 at his position and No. 7 in Missouri, according to the 247Sports composite. (www.mystatesman.com)
