Arsenal transfer news: Lucas Torreira ‘deal agreed’ with Sampdoria

By Daily Sports on June 13, 2018

Arsenal have agreed a deal with Sampdoria for midfielder Lucas Torreira, it has been claimed.

Uruguay international Torreira has a £22m (€25m) release clause in his contract but the two clubs have settled on a £26.5m (€30m) fee, according to Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset.

Arsenal are willing to pay a higher sum so they can spread out the payments in instalments.

Despite the reported agreement over the transfer fee, Gunners bosses are yet to agree personal terms with Torreira.

Arsenal, who are in their first transfer window of the post-Arsene Wenger era, are looking to strengthen the spine of Unai Emery’s team.

It emerged over the weekend that Gunners bosses registered their interest with Torreira’s agent Pablo Bentancur.

But they face competition from Borussia Dortmund and Napoli, who risk losing Jorginho to Manchester City.

Sampdoria sporting director Carlo Osti has warned interested parties they will not consider offers worth less than Torreira’s release clause.

He said: “Torreira has a €25m release clause, everyone knows that.

“Anyone who wants him will have to pay that.”

Any switch is unlikely to be imminent because Torreira has been named in Uruguay’s 23-man squad for the World Cup.

Torreira joined Sampdoria from Pescara in 2015 and has made 74 appearances in all competitions.

He is under contract with the Serie A outfit until the summer of 2022.
