National Chairman of Nigerian Super Eagles Supporters Club (NSESC), Prince Vincent Okumagba, has advised members of his club on the dare consequences of absconding in Russia during the forthcoming World Cup football championship that would kick-off in that country from June 14, 2018.
He made the declaration while addressing them on the need to ensure they will be great ambassadors of the country throughout their stay in the tournament. According to him, there is nothing tangible or gainful to defect into any country whatsoever and become an illegal alien whose life is at risk every moment. The essence of the championship, he noted is mainly to make friends and watching the beautiful game also gives you the opportunity to see live the world football stars you watch on television, adding: “Aside from tarnishing the image of the country such person or group of persons who absconds will be in danger list.”
“There is nothing like home and we have to behave ourselves. NSESC is law abiding and won’t involve itself in such sabotage. Our major task in Russia would be to provide unflinching support for our dear Super Eagles team one of the finalists in this year’s World Cup tournament. No other thing. However anybody or group that is thinking the other way round would definitely have their fingers badly burnt as there will be adequate strategies in place to track such act. To be forewarned, he said is to be forearmed,” he restated.
Okumagba told the media that there will be no room for such nonsense so far the club is concerned. He noted that any act of indiscipline will be treated like that of a saboteur and that the management of NSESC will never leave anything to chance to put concrete measures in place to effectively checkmate such move if it arises.
He insists that NSESC has learnt the act of being proactive as this trip builds up, adding: “We will be on top of the situation. My assurance is that there will adequate counter offensive for this in case if need be.”
The NSESC supremo added that his members believes in following due process and also in ensuring that only the best internationally accepted standards are maintained. He said that as a veteran administrator, he has to touch on this nasty vice so as to discourage it from happening right under his watch.
“We ensure we bring in experts from time to time to educate us on the disadvantages of doing things the wrong way. To be truthful, it has been yielding results among our members of late. The enlightenment to shun disappearance in any country we visit on the cause of providing support for the national team has been frontally deliberated upon oftentimes and it is still on the front burner. We have never relented on drumming them into the ears of my members and they have come to realise the grave dangers inherent in indulging in such illegal adventure.
“My bet is that there will be no hiding place for any deviant(s) that may want to try our patience. One of our strong points in this supporters club is that we are in full control of our members. They have visible means of livelihood and so there won’t be any such distraction. It is no longer business as usual. Our policy from day one is to thoroughly screen members and even send secretly to verify them and their claimed businesses premises in order to ascertain their authenticity and such policy would continue to be strongly rooted in all our dealings,” he pointed out.
On the kind of measures he and his executives have put in place to tackle such situation if it rises, the Delta State born business magnet said it is to be published. “We have our plans up our sleeves and so will it be. We are not one for emptiness because we are not desperate for members. We carry out proper screening exercise and the committee is made up of men and women of high integrity. They are astute in their endeavours. We don’t discuss security strategies with the media otherwise it won’t have any meaning when you let out what is supposed to be your last resort and defence in situation like this. My only advise to whoever if any, is that he must wash his hands off such idea because it will go with daring penalty.”
