Man United eyes Gareth Bale, set to sell Martial to fund move

By Daily Sports on April 1, 2018

Jose Mourinho has given the green light for Manchester United to sell Anthony Martial this summer, according to reports.

The 22-year-old has struggled to register consistent performances this season but has still managed 11 goals and seven assists in 40 appearances so far.

The arrival of Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window has also meant that Martial has faced increased competition for places at United, and the France international has started only four games since the Chilean’s move to Old Trafford.

Sunday Mirror reports that Mourinho has ‘lost patience’ with Martial and United are now willing to offload the forward at the end of the campaign.

Juventus have expressed an interest in signing Martial and the Serie A champions have already approached the Frenchman’s representatives for initial talks over a possible move.

Reports in Italy this week also claimed that Martial has spoken to France teammate Blaise Matuidi about joining Juventus.

United, meanwhile, will use the funds from the sale of Martial to make another push for Gareth Bale.

Bale is still wanted by Mourinho and United’s hopes of signing the Wales international have been raised as Real Madrid are open to selling the player.

The report claims that a bid of around £50 million will be enough to land the 28-year-old.

Mourinho indicated last summer that he would want United to attempt to sign Bale if Madrid made him available.
