Jordan Nwora will suit up for Nigeria’s FIBA World Cup qualifying team

By Daily Sports on June 13, 2018

Rising sophomore Jordan Nwora will spend the last part of this month suiting up for Nigeria’s preliminary squad as the team competed in the FIBA World Cup African Qualifiers on June 29-July 1 at the Indoor Sports Hall of National Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria.

Nwora has dual citizenship with Nigeria and his father, Alex, serves as the national team’s head coach.

“We are thrilled Jordan will have the opportunity to play for the Nigerian National team,” said Louisville head coach Chris Mack. “What an experience for him to be able to compete on the international level against pros from around the world. We will be following him every step of the way throughout the tournament.”

Nigeria will play three games in the qualifying event, all at 3:30 p.m. ET: June 29 vs. Uganda, June 30 vs. Rwanda and July 1 vs. Mali. Each of the games will be televised online at www.LiveBasketball.tv.

While this seems like an odd thing, it’s actually becoming more and more of a common occurrence amongst college basketball players. Just last summer, in fact, Louisville’s Steven Enoch suited up for Armenia at the 2017 FIBA U20 European Championships. Enoch, who has no Armenial heritage but obtained dual-citizenship in order to play in the event, wound up averaging 22.5 points, 13.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots over four games.

Here’s hoping Jordan has similar success a few weeks from now in Lagos. (cardchronicle.com)
