Manchester City extended their lead to 15 points at the top of the English Premier League after defeating West Bromwich Albion 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night while their closest rivals Manchester United lost 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur at the Wembley Stadium.
Goals from Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero secured a comfortable win for the Citizens. The defeat saw West Brom drop to 20th in the EPL table.
West Bromwich Albion started the encounter defending deep but it took Pep Guardiola’s men 19 minutes to open scoring through Fernandinho after the Brazilian poked in De Bruyne’s lovely pass.
Kevin De Bruyne scored the second in the 68th minute before Sergio Aguero sealed the win in the 89th minute.
At Wembley Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur ended Manchester United’s eight-game unbeaten streak in the English Premier League, handing out a 2-0 defeat to Jose Mourinho’s side who gave Alexis Sanchez his first league start.
Christian Eriksen scored the opener after 11 seconds and the lead was doubled by an own goal from Phil Jones in the 28th minute.
The win moved Spurs six points clear of their North London rivals Arsenal who lost 3-1 to Swansea on Tuesday.
