Lagos Swan in shock over Deji Tinubu’s death

By Daily Sports on January 28, 2018

The Lagos State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (Lagos SWAN) has expressed deep shock over the death of former Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports, Mr Deji Tinubu.

Deji was reported to have slumped while playing football during the annual retreat of the Lagos State Executive before he was rushed to the General Hospital in Epe where he later died.

The association, through its Chairman, Debo Oshundun described his death as a huge blow to the entire sports community and Lagos SWAN in particular.

“The death of our brother, a leading light in sports journalism is just a bitter pill to swallow. Mr Tinubu was a committed member of this great association as he was always ready to render any help necessary to further its course," Oshundun said.

The body said the outpour of eulogies from the sports families is a clear testimony of the impact the late Tinubu made in the lives of many sportmen and women while on earth.

Oshundun said his death which has left many people in shock calls for a deep retrospect of the vanity of human existence on earth.

“Sadly, the new executive of Lagos SWAN has concluded all arrangements to pay him a courtesy visit as a sign of respect and solicit his support but unfortunately our dear colleague is no more.

"This is why I always advise people to live a pious life because when death calls no matter how highly you are placed, you will definitely answer the supernatural call to the world beyond.

Oshundun recalled that Tinubu led his team Sports Vision to victory in the 2015 edition of SWAN Cup.

''He actually won the Most Valuable Player Award for that edition.

“He is always around us and physically present as much as his busy schedule would permit him. We will definitely miss our brother and the vacuum his death has created will be difficult to fill.

To say the least, I am shattered and speechless. What more can we say but to pray to God to grant his soul eternal rest," Oshundun said.

He prayed that God should give his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
