Morocco may be the likely shost of next year’s CHAN after CAF stripped Kenya the hosting rights last month for failing to meet the requirements, according to SCORENigeria.
Morocco as well as oil-rich Equatorial Guinea and Ethiopia are the countries who beat the September 30 deadline for the submission of bids to host the bi-ennial competition reserved for domestic league players.
“The CAF executive committee are favourably disposed to awarding the hosting rights to Morocco because the king and government are committed to it,” a top source said.
Morocco are also believed to have supported the candidacy of president Ahmad for the top CAF post.
The North African nation last hosted a major African football tournament, AFCON 1988.
They had a major falling out with CAF when they withdrew as hosts of the 2015 AFCON for fear of the spread of the deadly Ebola.
Morocco are also seen as a possible replacement for Cameroon to host the expanded AFCON 2019.
Reports have suggested they are preparing to bid for the recently expanded FIFA World Cup in 2026. (SCORENigeria)
