Europe's football governing body, Union of European Football Association, UEFA, on Sunday announced the seeds for the draw of group stages of the 2017/2018 Champions League.
Holders Real Madrid retained their title on Saturday night, thereby winning the European top title for a record 12th time. Los Blancos are among the eight teams seeded in Pot 1 for the 2017/18 group stage draw to be held on August 24, 2017 along with the returning Spartak Moscow of Russia.
Pot 1 for the group stage draw is formed by the holders and the champions of the top seven national associations as per the UEFA association club coefficient rankings at the end of season 2015/16 that formed the 2017/18 access list.
Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk took the newly vacated spot in Pot 1 as the champions of the eighth-ranked association following Madrid's success this weekend,
According to a detailed breakdown on the UEFA website on Sunday "the remaining three pots will be formed as per the UEFA club coefficient rankings at the end of 2016/17."
