The nation’s football governing body, the Nigeria Football Federation, President and members of the Guild of Sports Editors in Nigeria, the Managing Partner of SIAO Partners, Ituah Ighodalo and Barrister Ahmed Abass of City Hill Associates were among top dignitaries who gathered at the Ibis Hotel, Lagos last Wednesday to celebrate winners of the Nigeria Pitch Awards in the media category.
Tana Aiyejina of Punch Newspapers, Godwin Enahkena of Top Radio and Austin Okon-Akpan of Channels Television were formally presented with the awards and certificates for Football Journalist of the Year in the Print, Radio and TV categories of the Award.
Speaking at the ceremony, the NFF, represented by Ademola Olajire, Director of Media and Communication, stated that the Awards will continue to enjoy the full backing of the football body because it has consistently placed value on transparency, credibility and integrity. He noted also that ‘Matchmakers Consult International Limited has been consistent in ensuring a flawless process, with no winner in the history of the Awards having been considered to be un-deserving of the gong’.
The Managing Partner of SIAO Partners, the independent Votes Collation Body for the awards commended the NFF and Sports Editors for supporting the awards, stressing further that they were impressed with the open and credible award process put in place by the Organisers. Also speaking at the event, Tony Ubani, President of the Guild of Sports Editors thanked the Organisers of the Pitch Awards for creating avenues such as this, where hardworking sports writers and reporters would be honoured.
Shina Philips, President of the Pitch Awards, expressed the appreciation of the Organisers to all football stakeholders who have worked tirelessly with them to bring the project to where it is. He stated that from next year, the award statuette will be fully gold –plated. He further announced that the voting for the fourth edition of the Awards will soon begin across the 36 States and the FCT Abuja. (thenff.com)
