Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria has announced that South African based Oche Andre Odoh maintains his spot as the best ranked golfer in the country.
According to her official portal www. pganigeria.com where the October ranking was released, Oche leads Ghanaian Vincent Torgah of Tema Golf Club despite his poor showing at the association’s last sanctioned event at Oturkpo, Benue State.
Tournament Director, Uche Ezeh explained that Oche has had two strong finishes in early events that kept him still at number one.
“I think it has been a strong year for Odoh on the Nigerian Tour, we might have not had many events so far because of the economic condition, but Odoh’s game has been near perfect. He won all the events he featured in except the last one,” he said.
The PGA’s next event for Air Assault Golf Club will elude the Nigerian star as he has chosen to honour his inclusion at the Lion of Africa Cape Town Open than return to defend his number one spot in Nigeria.
He said, “My goal is to improve my world ranking and that is what is offered here in SA.”
Hence, a good show by Torgah, Sunday Odegha of Minna Cantonment Golf Club, Sunday Olapade of Asaba Golf Club, Ayisah Lucky, Emos Korblah of Achimota Golf Club and Mike Ubi at the host Club will displace him at the top of the ranking next week.
Jide Bolaji, tournament coordinator of the PGA says the tour is very dynamic and says he expects a shock win at the Air Assault Open next week.
