Opponent saves Iheanacho from losing consciousness, as Nigerian international suffers serious injury In City win

By Nelson Dafe on August 25, 2016

Despite the fact that they were opponents on the night, Steaua Bucharest defender Bogdan Mitrea showed his human side as he rushed to the aid of Manchester City’s attacker Kelechi Iheanacho after the latter appeared to be losing consciousness during their UEFA Champions League qualifier on Wednesday night.
Iheanacho, who was making his first start under new City manager Pep Guardiorla, seemed to have pulled up a muscle and fell on the ground. The 28-year-old Mitrea was close by when Iheanacho fell on the pitch and suddenly rushed to the 19-year-old Nigerian when he appeared to be swallowing his tongue.
City medics quickly rushed into the pitch and thankfully Iheanacho hadn’t lost consciousness.
It was not immediately clear how serious the injury is but Iheanacho is likely to be facing a lengthy spell on the treatment table.
It remains to be seen how City would respond to the possibility of losing Iheanacho to a long term injury. A dip into the transfer market for a new striker or the promotion of Ivorian Wilfred Bony into the main team frame after missing out so far in the Guardiola era, are possibilities that would surely be considered.
City beat Bucharest 1-0 on the night courtesy of a Fabian Delph second have header to qualify 6-0 on aggregate.
