Fast-rising Nigerian sprinter and women’s 200m champion at the 2025 African Junior Athletics Championships, Success Oyibu, has joined top National Collegiate Athletic Association side, Baylor University, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Oyibu’s signing was announced on Thursday by the Baylor Track & Field team ahead of the incoming season.

“Oyibu comes to Baylor with a PR of 11.42 in the 100m and 23.56 in the 200m. She was the 200m champion and 100m silver medalist at the U18/U20 African Championships,” they announced on X.

The 20-year-old’s rise to prominence in Nigerian athletics began at the MTN CHAMPS Athletics Classics, which was held in Benin in March, where she delivered one of the meet’s breakthrough performances.

She clocked 23.71s to win the junior girls’ 200m title after earlier taking silver in a tight 100m final.

At the African U18/U20 Championships in Abeokuta, she led a Nigerian sweep in the U-20 women’s 200m, winning in a new personal best of 23.56s ahead of Chioma Nweke (23.95s) and Lucy Nwankwo (24.24s).

She had earlier claimed silver in the U-20 women’s 100m behind Nweke before anchoring Nigeria’s U-20 women’s 4x100m relay team to gold in a time of 45.58s alongside Nwankwo, Anita Enaruna, and Nweke.

She joins a list of Nigerian athletes like national 400m hurdles star Ezekiel Nathaniel, former World U-20 400m champion Imaobong Nse Uko, and men’s javelin bronze medallist Nnamdi Chinecherem to have been signed by Baylor.

Meanwhile, Mississippi State also announced the signing of three new Nigerian athletes.

They added sprinters Emmanuel Badejo (46.05s), Ife Adisa (59.96s), and Adetutu Aladeloye (11.49s) to join returning top SEC performers Ramat Jimoh and Fakorede Adekalu ahead of next season.
