Nigeria’s Ruth Ayodele added three medals to the country’s growing haul at the ongoing Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh after a strong performance in the women’s 63kg weightlifting event on Monday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Ayodele clinched silver in the clean and jerk with a best lift of 117kg, and two bronze medals in the snatch and overall total, lifting 95kg and 212kg, respectively.

Her combined effort saw her finish just a kilogram behind Albania’s Enkileda Carja, who posted a total of 213kg for silver, while Turkey’s Aysel Ozkan claimed gold with 216kg.

The 25-year-old opened her campaign with a solid snatch series, successfully lifting 93kg and 95kg before narrowly missing out on a higher mark.

In the clean and jerk, she maintained composure under pressure to record 110kg, 112kg, and a best of 117kg, which earned her the silver medal and a place on the podium for the overall total.

Her achievement follows Rafiatu Lawal’s historic treble of gold medals earlier in the competition, where the Nigerian lifted 98kg in the snatch and 122kg in the clean and jerk to secure a total of 220kg in the women’s 58kg category.

Lawal’s feat opened Nigeria’s medal count and set the tone for the country’s continued success in Riyadh.

Ayodele’s display further underscores Nigeria’s growing prominence in women’s weightlifting, with consistent podium finishes highlighting the nation’s depth and technical improvement on the international stage.

Her medals take Nigeria’s tally to six as the Games progress, strengthening hopes for more podium finishes before the closing ceremony.
