Berbatov, Hoddle label Iwobi world-class

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov and former England manager Glenn Hoddle have hailed Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi as world-class following his brilliant display in Fulham’s 3-1 comeback victory over Brentford at Craven Cottage on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Iwobi was instrumental in Fulham’s remarkable turnaround, scoring the equaliser and providing an assist for Harry Wilson’s winner during a man-of-the-match performance that drew widespread praise from the Premier League Productions pundit team.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Berbatov described Iwobi’s assist as unbelievable and worthy of world-class status.

“From the moment the ball reached Iwobi’s feet—what a pass, unbelievable. A world-class pass, and the finish was on the same level,” Berbatov said.

Hoddle was equally effusive in his praise for the former Arsenal star, suggesting the Nigerian midfielder is currently at the peak of his powers.

“This is a beautiful pass, it really is. The defenders go with Muniz, he’s seen it, there’s a hole there, a gap to Wilson and what a finish, he’s just kept his balance,” Hoddle said.

“Lovely ball from Iwobi. He’s probably playing the best football of his career at the moment. But that is just a beautiful pass into the corner.”

Fulham found themselves trailing after Mikkel Damsgaard converted a misplaced pass into the opening goal for Brentford. However, the west London side refused to be discouraged and continued to apply pressure.

The breakthrough came when Iwobi capitalised on the mounting pressure with a well-calculated first-time finish to level the scores. The Nigerian then turned provider, delivering a precise pass to Wilson, who fired home to give Fulham the lead.

Ethan Pinnock’s own goal, as he directed Ryan Sessegnon’s cross into his own net, completed the scoring to make it 3-1 and secure Fulham’s first consecutive Premier League victory since February.

The result saw Fulham climb to seventh position in the table, with Iwobi’s performance earning plaudits from two of the game’s most respected figures.

Rodrigo Muniz thought he had scored a fourth goal for Fulham, but the attempt was ruled out by VAR as the home side held on for a memorable victory.
