Lagos State Football Association, LSFA, has expressed disappointment over the attitude of some football fans who are trying to bring the game into disrepute in the state, describing it as unacceptable.
Rising from a meeting with clubs in the state who are participating in the ongoing 2016/2017 Nigerian football season, The Lagos State FA said what happened on Sunday during the Ikorodu United and Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) NPFL Match at Onikan Stadium in Lagos and in a few matches involving other clubs in the state is totally unacceptable.
Chairman of the Lagos FA, Seyi Akinwunmi, stated that the association frowns at crowd violence at the state stadiums, adding that the attitude of some football fans is totally unacceptable and that henceforth anybody found causing trouble at match venues across the state will be arrested and prosecuted.
Akinwunmi who is also the 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) warned the clubs to call their supporters to order, adding that the FA will not fold its hands and allow some miscreants parading themselves as football fans to destroy all the good work the FA has done in the past few years.
“Please warn all your respective supporters and fans who come to the stadium to cause trouble that it is not acceptable to the FA and Lagos State. Henceforth anybody caught fomenting trouble will be arrested and we will follow through to the court of law.”
In the meantime the State FA has concluded plans to organise a fans forum in an effort to educate football fans in the state regarding their conduct and behaviour at the various stadiums across the state.
