We are not in Nigeria for holidays – Zimbabwe captain

By Daily Sports Nigeria on March 25, 2025

Zimbabwe captain, Marshall Munetsi, has said the Warriors are facing the Super Eagles with the mindset of creating their own history, as both teams clash in a 2026 World Cup qualifying match in Uyo on Tuesday (today), PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Warriors are bottom of the qualifying group with just three points after five matches but the skipper is confident they can upset the Super Eagles in Uyo.

“I hope you guys know that we are not here for a holiday, we are here to make our own history,” Munetsi said during the pre-match interview on Monday.

Also, winger Tawanda Chirewa has insisted his side will not be intimidated by Nigeria when they meet at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium today.

Chirewa, who plays as a right winger for EFL League One club Huddersfield Town, on loan from Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers, is upbeat about the Warriors’ ability to challenge the Super Eagles.

“I’m just focused on recovery and preparing to go again on Tuesday (today) against Nigeria, which is a very good team,” Chirewa said.

“A lot of their players compete in England and Europe, but I want to go out there and showcase my abilities. Our squad also has plenty of talented players, so there’s no reason to fear Nigeria.”

An unthinkable upset for Zimbabwe against Nigeria will reignite their hopes of challenging for the automatic ticket in Group C, but Eric Chelle’s men, who have just revived their hopes with a win against Rwanda, are also determined to grab another win.
