Olympics bronze medallist Eniola Bolaji will lead a five-member Nigerian para badminton contingent to the 2025 Spanish Level 2 International Para Badminton Championships scheduled for Victoria, Spain, from Tuesday (today), March 4th to 9th.
The Nigerian team includes Okoro Chinyere Lucky, Chukwuemeka Ijeoma Gift, Eze Chukwuebuka Sunday, and Nnanna Chigozie Jeremiah, all of whom will compete in their respective singles categories as they seek to enhance Nigeria’s reputation in the global para badminton arena.
Following their campaign in Victoria, three of the athletes – Bolaji, Jeremiah, and Eze – will proceed to Toledo, Madrid, for the more prestigious Spanish International Level 1 Para Badminton Championship, which will be held from March 12th to 16th, 2025.
Bolaji, who made history by winning bronze at the Olympics, will compete in the Women’s SL3 singles category, while Jeremiah will participate in the Men’s SL4 singles and doubles events. Eze will feature in the Men’s SL3 singles and doubles competitions.
In a strategic move to maximise Nigeria’s medal chances, Jeremiah and Eze will join forces to compete in the Men’s SL3-SL4 doubles event, further strengthening the country’s representation at the elite tournament.
These international championships represent a significant opportunity for Nigerian para badminton players to test their skills against world-class opposition as they continue their quest for greater recognition on the global stage.
The back-to-back tournaments in Spain will also serve as valuable competitive experience for the Nigerian contingent, particularly as they look to build on the nation’s growing reputation in para badminton following Bolaji’s historic Olympic medal.
