Manchester United’s 4-0 demolition of Everton on Sunday came with a concerning setback as playmaker, Bruno Fernandes, suffered an injury scare ahead of the club’s midweek clash with Arsenal.
The Portuguese midfielder delivered a stellar performance at Old Trafford, providing two assists as Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee both scored braces to secure Ruben Amorim’s first Premier League victory as United manager.
The win elevated United to ninth on the table and marked a positive turn under Amorim’s leadership.
However, Fernandes left the pitch late in the game, limping and wearing an ice pack around his ankle after being substituted for Alejandro Garnacho.
The 30-year-old looked visibly frustrated on the bench, prompting fears about his availability for Wednesday’s crucial trip to North London.
If Fernandes is sidelined, it would mark only the second game he has missed due to injury since joining United from Sporting CP in January 2020. Known for his remarkable durability, Fernandes has clocked 252 appearances in less than five years at the club.
Reflecting on his fitness earlier in March this year, Fernandes credited his family for their support.
“I just have to be grateful for my father and my mum because they made me the right way, the strong way. My wife does a great job at home to give me as much rest as I can. It’s difficult when you have two kids at home, but I get my rest, my naps, everything I need, because she’s there to help me,” Fernandes said.
United’s dominant display against Everton follows a promising start to Amorim’s tenure, with a 1-1 draw against Ipswich and a 3-2 win over Bodo/Glimt earlier this month.
The club will now be hoping Fernandes recovers swiftly to maintain their upward trajectory under their new manager.
