Oshoala makes history with Bay FC

By Daily Sports Nigeria on November 5, 2024

Asisat Oshoala has made history with National Women’s Soccer League club Bay FC, having recorded the most wins by an expansion team in an inaugural regular season.

The San Francisco-based club, which began play in the NWSL as an expansion team in the 2024 season, recorded 11 wins in 26 matches to finish the regular season in 7th position with 34 points, securing a spot in the playoffs, where they will face Washinton Spirits on Sunday, November 10, 2024.

Oshoala, who joined the club after her contract with FC Barcelona, scored seven goals to finish 13th in the scorer’s chart at the end of the regular season.

Bay play their home matches at the 18,000-capacity PayPal Park in San Jose, California, which also serves as home to the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer (MLS).

The ownership group, which is led by investment firm Sixth Street Partners and four former United States women’s national team players, was awarded an expansion franchise on April 4, 2023. They are the first women’s professional soccer club based in the Bay Area since the San Jose CyberRays and FC Gold Pride, who both played in previous leagues
