Danjuma sure of better Falconets performance

By Daily Sports Nigeria on September 3, 2024

The head coach of Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, Christopher Danjuma, is confident the team would do much better in subsequent outings at the 2024 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

The gaffer made this assertion after the Falconets edged Korea Republic 1-0 in their Group D opener at Estadio El Techo, Bogota, on Monday morning.

Flourish Sabastine’s 86th strike secured the win for the Falconets, with Philomina Yina voted Player of the Match.

In his post-match reactions with FIFA.com, Danjuma praised his charges for the virtuoso performance as they look to up the ante in subsequent group games against Germany and Venezuela.

“It was a tough match, being the first match. The victory is sweet because it puts your foot in the group. My team performed well, but I know we’re going to perform much, much, much better than this,”  said Danjuma.

The Koreans had their moments. Kim Shinji rattled the crossbar, while Cho Hyeyoung proved an incessant torment to Nigeria. They must now regroup and attempt to kick-start their campaign against Venezuela on Wednesday.

Nigeria, who have participated in every edition of the competition since the inaugural edition in 2002, will on Wednesday face Germany at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo Bogotá, D.C., and round off preliminary hostilities against Venezuela on Saturday at the Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero.
