NPFL: Remo stay top after Kwara United win

By Daily Sports Nigeria on November 30, -0001

After being overtaken temporarily by Doma United, Remo Stars remain top of the table in the 2023/23 Nigeria Premier Football League thanks to a 2-0 victory over Kwara United during a match-day 13 game in Ikenne on Sunday, The PUNCH reports.

Off the back of an impressive run of four games without a losing and conceding, Daniel Ogunmodede’s side began the game on the front foot and it took them only 25 minutes to get the opening goal courtesy of Adams Olamilekan.

Former Kwara United forward, Samad Kadri was at the end of a cutback from Seun Ogunribide to slot home the second and also his second goal for his new club.

The only away win of the week was in Kaduna where Niger Tornadoes were beaten 3-2 by Plateau United. Bashir Usman scored a brace for the hosts in the second half, but another brace from Albert Hilary and an 84th minute winner from Emmanuel Nenrot secured the win for the visitors.

Nine-time champions Enyimba also kept pace with the top four with a 2-1 win at home against Abia Warriors in the Abia Derby. Eze Ekwutoziam and Chidiebere Nnachi gave the People’s Elephant a two-goal cushion before Augustine Njoku scored a consolation for Warriors in stoppage time.

In Ibadan, 3SC dropped points for the fourth game running after they were forced to a 1-1 draw at home by Katsina United. Captain Taofeek Malomo saved the blushes of Gbenga Ogunbote’s men with a 15th minute equaliser afer Andrew Idoko gave the visitors an early lead in the 7th minute.

Elsewhere in Benin, a 4th minute penalty was the difference between Bendel Insurance and Sunshine Stars as the Benin Arsenal beat their visitors who were attacked by gunmen on their way to honour the fixture 1-0.

Akwa United also won for the first time in four games thanks to Seye Oguntayo’s first half strike which secured a 1-0 victory for Fatai Oso’s men against Lobi Stars. Ekeson Okorie also scored a brace as Bayelsa United beat Enugu Rangers 2-0 in Yenagoa.

Gombe United also ended their run of three games without a win with a 2-0 win over struggling Heartland at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.
