In the first part of this two-part series, PUNCH Sport Extra’s PETER AKINBO brings to the spotlight the remarkable talents and achievements of the Top 10 Nigerian female boxers

1. Elizabeth Oshoba (6-0-0)

Oshoba has displayed remarkable skill, maintaining an undefeated record of six wins since turning professional just a year ago. Her precise techniques and determination have positioned her as a rising star in the boxing realm with half of her victories coming by knockouts.

She clinched a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in the featherweight division and in November this year, she bagged the International Bxing Organisation female super-featherweight title.

On her way to the IBO title, the 24-year-old fought four times this year handing two of her opponents their first career defeats.

1. Adijat Gbadamosi (8-0-0)

Gbadamosi boasts an impressive professional record of eight wins with no losses. Her resilience in the ring has earned her recognition as a promising force in the world of female boxing.

The 2018 Summer Olympics silver medallist became the first Nigerian female boxer to claim an African Boxing Union title on June 17, 2023 when she knocked out Zimbabwean Patience Mastara in the fifth round at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, Ghana to clinch the formerly vacant belt.

The 21-year-old ABU super-bantamweight champion is confident of defending her title in her upcoming bout on December 22 in Awka, Anambra State.

1. Aina Abbey (10-0-0)

Abbey stands undefeated with a flawless record of 10 victories in the professional arena. Her consistency and strategic prowess have propelled her to the upper echelons of Nigerian female boxing.

The WBF Intercontinental champion extended her undefeated streak after defeating Tanzanian Lulu Kayage on December 3.

The super-flyweight boxer now holds an impressive record of 11 wins, nine of them knockouts. Nicknamed ‘Iron Abbey’, the 26-year-old’s tenacity and punching power earned her the WBF Intercontinental title in February 2022 when she defeated United Kingdom’s Laura Pain at the City Coast Centre in Portslade, East Sussex.

1. Abosede Obisanya (10-0-1)

Abosede Obisanya has showcased her prowess in the ring with an outstanding record of 10 wins, one draw, and no losses. Her resilience in the face of competition speaks volumes about her dedication to the sport.

In 2021, she won Nigeria’s national championship in the female bantamweight division. With seven of her victories coming through knockouts, six of them coming in her first eight fights, the 21-year-old has proven to be the best fighter in her category in Nigeria and one of the best in Africa as a
whole.

1. Bolatito Oluwole (8-0-0)

Oluwole stands tall with an unblemished record of 8 wins in her professional boxing career. Her tenacity and skillset have garnered attention and respect within the boxing community.

Nicknamed ‘Black Tito’, she emerged the best boxer at GOtv Boxing Night 29, after defeating Celina ‘Pretty Assassin’ Agwu on September 24.

She thus became the first female to win the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy for the best boxer at GOtv Boxing Night and N1m cash prize attached, ending nine years of male dominance of the best boxer award.

1. Abosede Akinsanya (7-0-0)

With an undefeated record of 7 wins, Abosede Akinsanya has demonstrated her dominance in the boxing ring. The 21-year-old’s consistent performances highlight her potential as a force to be reckoned with.

The welterweight boxer has won five of her fights by way of knockouts with two of her last three fights failing to go past the second round.

1. Olamiposi Solomon (6-0-1)

Olamiposi Solomon boasts an impressive record of 6 wins, 1 draw, and no losses. Her resilience in the face of challenges has cemented her reputation as a formidable female boxer.

Yet to lose since turning pro, the only time she failed to win was on her debut against Happiness Okoh and since then, the 20-year-old has secured knockout wins in four of her six victories.

1. Ayisat Oriyomi (5-0-0)

Ayisat Oriyomi maintains an impeccable record of 5 wins in her professional boxing career.

At the 2018 Commonwealth Games in 2018, she made it to the quarter-finals before losing to Northern Ireland’s Carly McNaul at the Oxemford Studios in Gold Coast.

Ater going pro, the 28-year-old has maintained strict professionalism sending four of her opponents to the canvas before the end of bouts making her one of the best in the country.

1. Blessing Oluwasegun (4-2-0)

Blessing Oluwasegun, with a record of 4 wins and 2 losses, has shown remarkable resilience and determination in her boxing journey. Her commitment to improvement is evident in her performances.

The 36-year-old welterweight boxer didn’t start boxing until she was 32 and has recovered from her debut loss to Latifat Salami by winning four of her next five fights with one loss to knockout specialist Akinsanya who is sixth on this list.

1. Celina Agwu (3-1-0)

Celina Agwu has showcased her talent with 3 wins and 1 loss in her professional boxing career. Her determination and skillset highlight her potential for greater achievements in the sport.

At 27, Agwu nicknamed ‘Pretty Assasin’ fully embodies her moniker as all her victories have come through a knockout blow. The light-heavyweight’s only career loss came at the hands of fifth-placed ‘Black Tito’ in September this year.
