…now fights for IBO title
Elizabeth Oshoba, 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medalist has had a change of opponent alongside the title she will fight for in her upcoming bout scheduled to take place at MECA, Regent Circus in Swindon, United Kingdom on November 25.
Her former opponent, British boxer Amy Andrew, who she was supposed to face for the vacant Commonwealth title, has withdrawn from the bout due to an injury sustained during her training camp.
Oshoba will now step into the ring to contest the vacant International Boxing Organization international female super-featherweight title against Italy’s Martina Righi (5-1-0-2KOs).
Reflecting on this abrupt change, Oshoba expressed composure informing our correspondent that her eyes are fully on the prize of winning her first professional title regardless of the opposition and title.
“The opponent change doesn’t really affect me that much because I am still going to be fighting on Saturday, and I still get a chance to win my first title so it’s fine by me.
I am still confident of a win in the match and will just focus the rest of my preparation for Martina now,” the in an exclusive conversation with our correspondent.
This change in opponents comes merely weeks after Oshoba’s triumph over Italian boxer Nadia Flalhi (6-3-1-1KOs) in a six-round featherweight clash on September 30. Her swift ascent to professional boxing following her remarkable success at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last year has been marked by a relentless pursuit of victory.
Oshoba secured her spot in the title contention for the Commonwealth title after defeating Kirsty Hill with a score of 58-56 in March, subsequently advancing to the final round of the eliminator bout.
The upcoming clash against Martina Righi represents Oshoba’s third fight in a span of 10 months, yet she remains undeterred by the frequency of her fights, displaying confidence in her abilities.
“I am not worried that it is so close to my last fight. Yes, I fought last month and some may think the fight is too soon, but I am happy to get this chance and I believe I will win,” affirmed Oshoba in an interview with PUNCH Sports Extra in October.
As Oshoba readies herself for this new challenge against Righi, the anticipation for an exhilarating encounter between these two talented pugilists continues to build within the boxing world.
Eyes are now firmly set on November 25, awaiting the electrifying showdown that will decide the fate of the IBO international female super-featherweight title as the 23-year-old eyes her first professional belt.
