Angry fans slam Eagles’ poor Lesotho performance

By Daily Sports Nigeria on November 17, 2023

Fans across Nigeria have lashed out at the faltering performance of the Super Eagles in their 2026 World Cup qualifiers opener against Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw against the Crocodiles as Semi Ajayi scored the leveler after the Eagles earlier went behind to a 56th-minute goal from Lesotho defender Motlomelo Mkhwanazi.

The team’s lacklustre display on the pitch ignited a storm of criticism, leaving supporters seething over the disappointing outcome. The echoes of disapproval found their way to social media with fans criticising Jose Peseiro, his tactics, and the passions of the players on the team.

Social media influencer, OMOTAYO Of Lagos wrote, “Imagine drawing against Lesotho that are ranked 153 by FIFA in your backyard, so many things are wrong with this team including the manager himself.”

Desmond Umeh criticized the team and coach writing, “Very useless team and coach.”

Another user on X Tosin Adeda furiously said, “I don’t remember the last time I watched a Super Eagles game this terrible. Sack this coach now before it’s too late.”

Lateef CFC equally expressed shame and asked for the home-based players to be given a try as the current mix are not doing enough.

“We are a shame to watch Nigeria. Just play the home base let’s see what they are capable of. I don’t need these guys anymore.”

Hormendo shared in the disappointment of the other fans surprised that Nigeria drew against the minnows, “Imagine struggling against Lesotho.”

Godwin Atai questioned the team’s passion and ability, asking, “What exactly do you guys need to win a game against Lesotho? Someone will say there’s no small team in football no more but countries like Egypt will be showing their class. Why does that statement always hold away where Super Eagles are involved?”

Another Nigerian simply named Sodiq criticized Peseiro, claiming, “The coach is just cashing out unnecessarily. He should have been sacked a long time ago.”

@Oladapomikky1 who seems to have made a bet on the game and was hoping to cash out was also hard done by the Eagles.

“Even with the country’s challenges, the Super Eagles couldn’t beat Lesotho to bring joy to our faces. They keep messing up betting outcomes,” he wrote.

@ii_am_dml) criticized the coach and goalkeeper Francis Uzoho who has now conceded five goals in the last three matches stating, “The stubborn coach; Uzoho should be banned from Nigeria, not just from playing for the Super Eagles. All the top African teams win, yet you only manage draws.”
