Boniface, Ogbu make Europa team

Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface and former Flying Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu have been named in the Europa League team of the week for the first round of matches by Football statistics website, Whoscored.com, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Boniface who has been outstanding for Bayer Leverkusen since his arrival from Belgian club Union Saint Gilliose continued his impressive form in the Europa League scoring a goal and making an assist as his German club outclassed Swedish side BK Hacken in their matchday one encounter at the Bay Arena.

His heroics took his tally to six and three assists in all competitions.

The 22-year-old assisted Florian Wirtz in opening the scoring for Die Werkself before also getting on the score sheet in the 66th minute as the German side began their campaign with a comfortable 4-0 win.

In Switzerland, Ogbu also helped Slavia Prague claim a 2-0 victory over Servette with a perfect header in the 59th minute of the encounter at the Stade de Geneve in Geneva.

In the 3-4-3 formation, Boniface leads the line alongside Florian Wirtz and Joao Pedro both on the flanks, while Ogbu starts on the right side of the three-man defence alongside Sebastian Coates and Sparta Prague’s Tomas Krejci.
