Akwa United striker Ubong Friday has described as a huge boost to his side Federation Cup clash against Sunshine Stars, the top-flight draw at Plateau United.
The Promise Keepers were held to a 1-1 draw by the Jos landlords in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 26 clash at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos.
The lanky goal poacher scored the side’s goal that gave them the crucial point at the Tin City side.
Friday said his side are happy to take four points off the NPFL newcomers in the on-going top-flight.
“I’m happy to have scored the vital goal that handed us the crucial point at Plateau United and four points off the side in the on-going league season.
“It was a hard fought match as both sides produced good displays that could have won the whole three points at stake for their side.
“The draw at Plateau United is a huge morale boost for us heading into the Federation Cup round of 16 clash against NPFL side, Sunshine Stars.
“It’s certain to be a tough encounter but we are strengthened by the hard-fought draw at Plateau United to go for an outright win against Sunshine Stars.
“We are the Cup holders and we are determined to go the whole hog to defend the title,” said the Akwa United marksman to supersport.com.
Akwa United and Sunshine Stars will head into the Federation Cup round of 16 clash on Tuesday at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi.
The point at Plateau United takes the Uyo-based side's total earnings to 36 and they are seventh on the top-flight log as well as seven points adrift of leaders, Wikki Tourists.
