Mbappe Poised For Real Madrid Move

By Daily Sports Nigeria on February 12, 2023

Last summer, Real Madrid thought they were set to sign Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer. Everything seemed set for the Frenchman’s arrival from PSG, until he performed a last-minute swerve to renew his contract with the Ligue 1 champions.

While he decided to continue at Parc des Princes, chatter about a future move to Real Madrid has continued to do the rounds, with Mbappe understood to have grown unhappy in Paris just a few months after signing a new deal.

And, according to The Athletic, Mbappe wants to leave PSG and sign for Real Madrid in the future. A move in the next summer seems unlikely, but the 24-year-old could make the jump in 2024 on a free transfer.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner signed a two-year deal with PSG until the summer of 2024. There is an option for a one-year extension, but it requires the player to agree to it as well.

So, in case Mbappe does not wish to trigger the extension option, he would become a free agent next summer and would be able to join Real Madrid on a Bosman deal.

The report states that Los Blancos are keeping an eye on Mbappe’s situation as they are aware that they need to sign a new striker sooner rather than later as Karim Benzema is in the final phase of his career and has no viable cover in the squad.

However, a move for Mbappe is unlikely to happen next summer. But, with the 2022 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winner set to become a free agent next year and given his desire to join the Merengues, this story is far from over.

Erling Haaland is also a name on Real Madrid’s radar and he could be a possibility, considering Manchester City’s recent FFP breaches and the potential sanctions that will come with it.
