According to Italian publication, Corriere dello Sport, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen’s newfound form has been attributed to the birth of his daughter.
The Nigerian striker in October dedicated the first hat trick of his career to his newborn daughter in Napoli’s 4-0 defeat of Sassuolo in one of the Saturday night fixtures of the Italian Serie A.
“I’m having the time of my life and I just want to enjoy it, ‘’ said Osimhen in his post-match comments.
“Every time I score I dedicate my goal to my daughter. This hat trick is for her.”
The Nigeria international joined Napoli in 2020 for a club record fee of €80m from Lille and has become an important player for Luciano Spalletti, scoring 19 goals between the championship and the Champions League.
He won the award for best-emerging player at the Globe Soccer Awards and became the top scorer in the first part of Serie A.
Osimhen has nine goals in 11 Serie A appearances so far this term and is determined to help Napoli win their first Serie A title since 1990.
“The 23-year-old lived a remarkable personal growth, especially since the birth of a daughter, Hailey True to whom he has dedicated every single goal since he opened his eyes,” Corriere dello Sport reports as quoted by Area Napoli
“2022 will also go down in history as the year of professional growth for this one-of-a-kind striker. No longer just an extraordinary, explosive, overwhelming athlete, but also a deadly striker capable of scoring 7 league goals in the last 6 games played after the injury and above all a decisive man.
“Yes: it was often said that he left no traces in the matches that matter and instead he solved the away challenges with Roma and Atalanta at the crucial moment and in between, to please, he slipped three into the Sassuolo goal.”
Napoli have enjoyed a magnificent first half of the 2022/23 season, sitting eight points clear at the summit of Serie A having qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League as group winners with a campaign that included big wins over Liverpool, Ajax and Rangers.
