In Response To Mahdi Shehu: Forward With Governor Wike

By Daily Sports Nigeria on October 17, 2022

It is no longer news that very performing Governor Nyesom Wike’s face -off with the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ), has  continued unabated.
Truth is that this writer has after a write up at the beginning when this crisis was snow balling into what the party has on its hands presently warned the PDP not to allow this g further deepen.

I also vividly remembered saying that though nobody is indispensible in any group however, Governor Nysom Ezenwo Wike’s case should be seen as ‘special’ because of his depth contributions for the survival of the former ruling party when the chips were down.

For obvious reasons which I will not border numerous readers of this digital platform as they are all on public domain presently.

He is the heart beat of PDP. For instance and without any prejudice, this columnist makes bold to say that most of the people currently scrambling for front seat in the PDP jumped ship to the today’s sinking All Progressive Congress APC at its formative years in 2014/2015 it was Wike and few others who stood against all deadly odds to defend this now viable  party these hawks shamelessly came back from their nefarious sojourn from lying and deceitful APC to rejoin PDP which they collaborated to nearly snuff life off,  if not for the resilient and doggedness never say die spirit of Wike and very few others

It is instructive to note that those who did not join APC went underground. Wike resisted the APC Government deadly strategy to muzzle down and possibly wipe out completely the only voice of the opposition in the largest black people concentration in the globe.

The River State governor came out boldly and strongly too to withstand wholesale the antics of the repressive APC/Mahammadu Buhari regime looking straight into their ‘fearful eyes’  eye ball to eye ball what is the overwhelming PDP which was nearly run out of existence by APC’s Mahammadu Buhari, the maximum ruler  of the first and worst order.

To be honest with you, I have been watching the event as it finally went out of hand presently due to sheer arrogance from the other side of the divide. If Governor Wike’s genuine and legitimate demand was promptly handled, this pillar to post running from pillar to post the PDP big wigs are engaged now would have been totally uncalled for.

Truth be told, PDP has a long history as one political party in this republic that has a strong internal mechanism to resolve crisis.
It is against those inflammable backgrounds and more therefore this columnist after these long road traveled  but keenly watching and following decided to respond to Mahdi Shehu and  ‘A Vindication of Nysom Wike’ which  came from another critical angle.
Let us be honest, before the whistle for party conventions and primaries began there was a Southern Governors’ Forum in Asaba which declared on Oath of their respective offices that power must shift to the South come 2023.

Their host, Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa from an Igbo speaking town called Owa in Ika Northeast Local Government Area of Delta State.  My take in all these playing out today is where has integrity of leadership gone? In all indications therefore, it has come to be that the essence of Oath of office in Nigeria has gone to the winds like every other once upon a time sacred issues and sundry. All these values of yesterdays and years have come to be on paper only in Nigeria.

In as much as the above must be upheld however, we must not lose sight of the famous Asaba declaration by Southern Governors that the next President of Nigeria must come from the Southern part of the country which ought to hold water for equity, justice and fair play.

It is wholly on that deep premise that this columnist continue to thumb up Governor Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, for strictly keeping faith with every act of his office!

We on this digital platform have not hidden our admiration via firmness of the Governor whom we have often tagged a leader’s leader.

We (DAILY SPORTS) team, a multi news digital platform has often times joked that the Rivers State Governor was living up his name and we conclude saying “what is in a name?. For benefit of those still wondering what this great name “WIKE” means however, from the part of Nigeria I hail ‘ALA IGBO’, it simply expresses strength! And by his unwavering patriotism,  He has no doubt humbly and pointedly Ikwerre, Proudly Igbo despite Nigeria politicians trying to cause divide and rule to create division among the Igbos,  Proudly Southerner! Proudly Christian! And proudly Nigerian!

He does not pretend to be on your good or bad book. He hits the nail on the head and calls spade by its name. That sums up who he is and continues to be. He is always in the fore front. He does not have time to bite the back because he leads from front. That is what makes him unique and in today’s Nigeria it is people that lies that people hail.
Wike is suave and he pulls crowd. A fighter of freedom justice fairplay and equity remains his cardinal objective and first order.  The people are his first constituency. He is a workaholic. You go on and on on talking about Governor Wike who has contributed a huge lot for the sustenance of democracy, PDP, development of modern Rivers State from where the legendary former Governor Peter Odili left off.
One of the thick skins Nysom Wike has is, he fights and defends his friends more than he does for himself. This attestation even his arch critics have admitted voluntarily in several fora.

We must bring this to bear as the Holy Bible recorded that when the Children of Israel appeared to be in a state of despair, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob always come to their rescue with a leader of unequalled intrepidity. What is happening today from Nysom Wike may not be farfetched. He is not blowing hot airs.

I have always differ a little from many as I vehemently believe that what Wike has been pointing at using his immediate political party; the PDP to propagate begets the entire/ larger polity-Nigeria.  Come with me a little further; imagine a situation where there is nobody like Governor Nyesom Wike in PDP we will not have come thus far.

My question has been where are other Nysom Wikes in other political parties to save this Nigeria.

In my candid thinking the massive masses of Southern Nigeria at large, Nigerian Christians and Muslims alike who must see reasons for his outcry should come out fully behind him. His Excellency Nyesom Wike is not crying loudest for equality, fair play, justice and sundry for himself but for the masses and for peace to reign in this country. That is widely acknowledged. Let us get it right that Governor Wike is not standing up for one section of the country or religion but on all fronts and on all fronts.   .It is sad that what Governor Wike has been crusading for some time now has not been pursued with this kind of energy and sincerity like this ever. It now appears many hate what he is currently propagating.

Did our Southern Muslims listen to him? Definitely, this is mind blogging questions, earnestly begging for answers.

In Nigeria polity today, it is widely said or known that Northern Nigeria is said to be one united. Many schools of thought have often asked how they are (North) being one. In religion? Or in language? Is it in culture? Or politics? Is it in historical experience?
Let it be emphatically said here that for those still living in fools’ paradise that Wike and his men cannot make meaningful impart if not heard accordingly will at the end of the day realize it is already too late to make necessary amendment.

The above assertion many experts that follow the politics of Nigeria closely and keenly have faulted it resoundingly. They went further to insist that it never existed and cannot stand the test of present time.

The fact remains that what Governor Wike especially before his follower is instructive. Absolute truth is that he is demand represents the yielding of many. It is not his fight alone. It is legitimate and ultimate and such must be sustained if not heard now but it must see the light of the day one day in our life time in this country that has often been described as paradise figured

Therefore we will continue to say forward with Governor Nysom Ezenwo Wike CON, POS (Africa).

Therefore on that note we say keep shooting
