U-23 Olympic Eagles in danger, may be thrown out of hotel over N7m debt

Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles Olympics team, the Dream Team VI, is in grave danger, with a high risk of being thrown out of their hotel rooms in the Gwarinpa area of Abuja, due to accumulated bills amounting to over N7 million.

A top football administrator who revealed the information to Daily Sports (www.dailysportsng.com) lamented the grave danger that looms for the team at the Olympic Games in Rio and football in general.

“Whether we believe it or not the game is in for tough times in the country till the tenure of the present administration elapses including that of the Sports Minister who runs the ministry like an emperor. “The way the country’s athletes would collapse may send many to bed rest in hospitals. We are in for another Olympic Games mess just like the London 2012 sham,” he explains.

It was further learnt that not only that the team does not even have money to fuel their bus to go for training, the NFF claims that it is the responsibility of the Sports Ministry to provide money for Olympic preparations. Unfortunately, the Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung and Alhassan Yakmut, former Director General of the National Sports Commission have engaged each other in a blame game to account for the colossal N2.9 billion released by the Presidency as part of fund for all Rio Olympic Games preparations.
