Kudos For C/Wealth Games Feat, Falconets Show Strength In Women World Cup

By Victor Enyinnaya on August 15, 2022

Nigeria’s Falconets’ are among the women national teams that qualified angling for honours at the ongoing under U-20 World Cup football summit in Costo Rica.

It would be recalled that our Falconets’ started off on high note defeating high profile France U-20 national side 2-1 in their opening game of group. It must be noted that Falconets’ group is one of the threatening with equally solid South Korea U-20. However, the Nigerians are equal to the task and focused to come out of the deadly group qualification that looks like a camel passing through the eye of a needle.

The Falconets’ technical crew is experienced enough and haven being in many World Women Cup tournaments.  The crew is aware of the thicker task ahead and so would not leave anything for chance henceforth. As we earnestly look forward to the second group game we will remain upbeat and hope that the girls would again put their acts together tightly against their equally dreaded opponent and ensure they won’t be dismissed too soon as to make qualification from the group stage nearer.

Truth is that Nigerian sports generally have been going down, down the valley if you like drains as it is in the entire polity. Such has been the shame and lot of APC/Mahammadu Buhari clueless regime since 2015 it came to the centre through deceitful acts which have kept the citizenry on their edge today via the present failed government.

As a matter of fact, objective Nigerians are eagerly waiting to hear what APC would use to campaign as the 2023 general election looms.

It is instructive to note that APC has destroyed every fabric which held Nigeria as thick entity. Its policy of exclusion remains dripping disappointing. You can agree with me that even sports are not left out. That brings us to the table to discuss this year’s historic performance of Team Nigeria to the recently concluded Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham.

Foremost and of significant on the above Games was that it remains Nigeria’s best ever as 12 gold medals were hauled by only our female athletes. Is that not momentous enough and so historic as well? Ponder that, as we take you along.

Another aspect is that,  it was not inspired by any enduring Athletics Federation of Nigeria board programme or otherwise by Sunday Dare’s Sports Ministry.  As usual, all the efforts put into preparations that finally threw up these sterling outings were purely that of individual athletes who knew where it pinches that ensured they don’t leave anything for granted to ensure their careers are improved upon drastically.

The athletes therefore were hell bent in improving their lots while some of them got it right, others were not lucky enough to grab it this time and head or tail, such intrigues have been over these years stood as traditional hallmark, bedrock and beauty of Games.

It is never the handiwork of this government. They came in as usual when the athletes have gone too far. We are celebrating the athletes today because of their enduring love for the vocation they (athletes) believe so much in which brought great relief for Nigerians under the deadly yoke of  hunger, deprivation, insecurity, economic stagnation, discrimination, divisive APC/Mahammadu Buhari have bestowed on Nigerians since 2015.

It gladdens the hearts of sports bluffs and analysts to note the exceptional performance by Team Nigeria at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham.  Yes, sports participation is all about winning whether it is national or international meet. Laurels by athletes are cheered and celebrated to high heavens by fans.

That is the power of sports where athletes put in their best to haul medals though all eyes on first position that earns gold. Sports no doubt remain spectacular.

Fans enjoy to the fullest every performance. The last Commonwealth Games remain the best ever since Nigeria began participation in the Games decades back.

The aura is still generating much celebration and comments of different kinds from fans, bookmakers and sports commentators alike.  However, one meeting point was the fact that athletes performances came via their personal sacrifices  to excel and drastically improve their ratings can never be over emphasised.

As the scenario continued to elicit loud and wide jubilation by fans as great relief to millions of Nigerians saddened with the burden of treachery in all spheres which is the mood in today’s Nigeria occasioned by APC/Mahammadu Buhari failed government that brought lots of misery to Nigerians.

The recently concluded Commonwealth Games success must be built upon especially by athletes themselves as usual, if they must maintain their fledging rating thus far. Athletes have been responsible for their personal development before now and one hopes they will never relent in their spirited efforts to continue to do same.

This government has been the worst ever to sports development and welfare of athletes. It was an excellent outing in the Commonwealth Games after great posting also at the World Athletics’ Games where Tobi and Brume entered the medals table as Amusan set World record.

It will remain indelible the high level performance at the Commonwealth Games. History would remain on their side too for their great commitment despite less care and concern on their careers by the Federal Government who only comes handy to ambush them whenever it is time to celebrate their achievements after each tournament or Games to score cheap political points which this government is popularly known for.

This columnist has over these years advocated that the Nigerian government, corporate bodies ought to design/ evolve sports programmes that would comprehensively aim at or tailored towards developing every Nigerian child who has talent and unquenchable interest /desire through sports.

That remains the best way to go than this present practice where athletes only carter for their development and well being only for Federal government to run rings around them when time for meet (s).  That is wrong and it has been said times without number it kept meeting deaf and dumb government after government.

It has long been established that sports have remained the light at the end of the tunnel which put Nigeria’s name in the front line or searchlight in the World, otherwise every other thing about this country has been portrayed negative especially since 2015 when this APC/Mahammadu Buhari’s government brought with it danger of all sorts into the country.

We in Daily Sports always give kudos and knocks where they are due. That is the traditional role of a responsible media and we won’t go off such track. Count on us despite the fact that it has earned us enemies and more friends alike.

Keep shooting hard till next week, Meanwhile, we Wait!!
