You see, writing about Nigeria in general looks tiring. In short it is as if one is flogging a dead horse. It won’t be out of place to liken the country as such.
A recall, we are all aware what is currently trending in the larger political turf where Labour Party Presidential hopeful, Peter Obi has became the nemesis of All Progressive Congress Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his hawks, Remember Tinubu first shot the first salvo when he said Labour Party would labour to death during the grand final rally enroute the last Osun State guber election where APC lost to rival PDP.
Just last week, it was the turn of Sam Omosteye, a top editorial staff and columnist in Bola Tinubu’s The Nation newspaper to steer the horn’s nest announcing Peter Obi’s Obituary at the back page of The Nation. It elicited much out cry from around the country and the globe.
Truly, from whichever angle you may be looking at it, it is obvious that Bola Tinubu and his ruling APC are already jittery on the trend and manner Peter Obi’s candidacy is sweeping like wild harmattan fire across the Nigerian nation and the best APC thought would extinguish the wide acceptance of Labour and Obi aka OBI-DIENT would be to resort to blackmail and character assassination which has been APC’s stock in trade all these years.
This time such propaganda would fail them woefully as enormous Nigerian youths in the 36 States and Abuja have been singing “Obi-dient” like song. Note that Peter Obi’s media organistaion never cared a hoot to reply all the trash from APC’s Presidential candidate and his agents proving that they are already out of fresh ideas on how to fix Nigeria. The party threw the citizenry into mess since 2015 when it used frivolities and sundry against PDP’s Goodluck Jonathan hence, Nigerians are currently trapped in APC’s cobwebs of no means.
Dear readers we will stop at that as numerous supporters of Peter Obi are adequately taking care of that aspect, vowing to punish APC for that devilish act.
The above narrative is a replica of what is happening presently in the Nigeria Football Federation as its elective congress slated for September draws nearer. As Peter Obi is currently the nemesis of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s APC and his agents, bluffs are presently witnessing in NFF elections slated for September.
It is instructive to note that since Christian Emeruwa entered the race to vie for the Presidency of the apex football governing body in the country, he instantly became the nemesis of every other contestant including the incumbent executive committee members of the current regime.
There has been jittery over his candidacy. Amaju Pinnick and his men have been going forward and back as usual frantically finding a way to manipulate the election to their preferred candidate.
It is so embarrassing that Nigeria has been reduced to this level of ridicule in the 21st century where competency rules the world, Nigeria is still hell bent on bending the hand of the clock backwards. If for instance, any candidate who is not fit either by hook or crook finds his way to the leadership of this country or NFF, then it would be hallow ritual for them. They would be finally doomed for ever. Vigilance must be the watch word.
While Bola Ahmed Tinubu APC’s flag bearer and his agents are already having sleepless nights over Peter Obi of Labour Party’s increasing popularity with the majority of Nigerian youths and others alike, also in football, the entrance of Christian Emeruwa to challenge the status quo in the NFF is giving the powers that be anthills so far.
Now Nigerian football fans are tired of this present regime. They have not shown capacity thereby leaving our football in thorough tatters. “Never again” is the chorus of numerous fans of the beautiful game that is steadily declining each second.
Sports Minister who is the representative of the Federal Government must find a way out of this vicious circle in Nigerian football currently. If he fails to act swiftly to save Nigerian football from the grips of Amaju Pinnick and gang, and allow the current lop-sided system of voting in the NFF election over the years to prevail come September, then it would be sad commentary for Nigerian football.
The question that is instantly on lips of Nigerians now is, which new idea will these Amaju Pinnick men bring to the table they could not bring for eight (8) years they have been on the saddle? I belong to the school of thought that is calling on the federal government to come out forcefully and stop Amaju Pinnick and his followers from coming back to NFF leadership in September.
My last line, the worst that would happen to Nigerian football today is having Amaju Pinnick likes to find their way back to led NFF. This is exactly where APC’s Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, entire APC and their agents would be right to boldly write ‘Obituary’ for Nigerian football.
It is the right way to go. Keep shooting hard till next week. Meanwhile we wait!!
