Rangnick: Man Utd To Need Rebuild

By Daily Sports Nigeria on April 3, 2022

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick has admitted that mass changes need to be made at Manchester United during the summer.

With nine matches of the Premier League season remaining, United sit 20 points adrift of leaders Manchester City and four points behind the Champions League places.

The Red Devils are currently in the process of interviewing candidates for the managerial position, while a number of players are expected to depart Old Trafford as free agents.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Rangnick says that United cannot afford to stand still, acknowledging that he will look to play a part in bringing in players who are more “hungry”.

The German said: “It’s obvious that something needs to be changed, something needs to be rebuilt in the summer. The team could do with some more highly-talented, hungry players who really want to develop their own careers.

“I don’t think it should be that much about signing big names. I wouldn’t mind big names, but for me it’s important about being competitive, hungry, seeing a move to a club – and I have always believed this – not only as a big contract, a big-name club, but the next logical step in his career.

“If this happens, then you have a completely different level of motivation, aspiration, inspiration to play for whatever club that is. That should be the major target for the summer transfer window.”

With Rangnick expected to take on an advisory role behind the scenes, Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag is currently regarded as the favourite to replace him in the dugout.
