Nigeria’s U-20 female national team, the Falconets, yesterday, defeated their Camerounian counterparts, the Young Lionesses 3-0 to book a place in the final round of the qualification series for the Cadet 2022 World Cup in Costa Rica.
The encounter, the first international match played at the newly renovated MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, saw midfielder, Esther Onyenezide, score a brace, with Precious Vincent scoring the other goal to shatter the hopes of qualification for Cameroun.
Onyenezide scored the opening goal in the 22nd minute of clash, before Vincent made it two for the home team.
Onyenezide again scored to make it three in the 73rd minute and finally nailed any hope of a come back by the visitors, who will now go back home having failed to record a goal in the two-legged fixtures.
With this victory, Nigeria will now meet the winner of the Morocco and Senegal clash in the final two-legged fixture slated for next month, to determine the country that will be at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in August.
