Flying Eagles Captain, Kelechi Nwakali, who recently completed his move to English club on a five-year deal, Arsenal, will join the Gunners for pre-season training, reports AfricanFootball.com. But his close friend and U-20 teammate, Samuel Chukwueze, will no longer join Arsenal.
He is reported to be on his way to Porto.
The report says Nwakali, who recently turned 18, will travel to England later this month to sign the dotted lines with ‘The Gunners’ and he said he will join them afterwards for pre-season.
“I will sign this month now that I’m 18, and then I will travel for pre-season next month,” he said.
The deal that will see the Nigeria U20 international move to the Emirates had been somewhat protracted, but has now been sorted.
The Gunners reportedly agreed a transfer fee of about £3 million to the Diamond Football Academy as part of the deal.
The midfielder will now continue his development at Arsenal.
Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger, confirmed his interest in the player earlier this year and claimed that the cluib identified Nwakali as the player of the tournament, and the young Nigerian is a top player.
Nwakali visited the Emirates in January and spoke to the club about a move back then.
He is also younger brother of Manchester City youngster, Chidiebere Nwakali.
While Nwakali is confirmed for Arsenal, Samuel Chukwueze, who was earlier reported to be on his way to the Gunners, will now join Porto of Portugal, reports allnigeriasoccer.com.
Chukwueze travelled with Nwakali to Arsenal in January and the Gunners submitted offers for the pair. However, their club, Diamond Academy, despite knowing the player wanted to move to Arsenal, would not accept the bid (despite initially appearing to do so) as they looked around for better offers to the exasperation of Arsenal who eventually decided to walk away from the deal.
Diamond Academy President, Martin Apugo, said, “Chukwueze is going to FC Porto. They are waiting for him to sign the papers but he couldn’t travel because he is with the Flying Eagles.
“We don’t know the length of contract he will sign until we get to Portugal.” (AfricanFootball.com)
