English third tier outfit, Fleetwood Town, have released Shola Ameobi as they prepare for the start of a new season.
The club listed Ameobi among 14 players allowed to leave the Cod Army.
"Fleetwood Town Football Club can today give an update on the playing squad following the conclusion of the Football League season on Monday afternoon," the club announced on Tuesday on their official website and accompanied their statement with players retained and released.
The 34-year-old Nigerian joined Fleetwood Town in February in a short contract as a free agent.
Ameobi, who made 10 appearances for Nigeria at senior level, could only muster a goal in 10 matches for Fleetwood Town in his brief spell at the club. (Supersports.com)
