Nigeria’s Olympic Shame And The Other Fear In CAF Championships

By Daily sports on August 16, 2021

This week we will as usual go out together as we explore burning issues that have held sports down since the Sunday Dare administration came to the centre stage of sports Ministration in Nigeria.

We will extra Enyimba and the inconsistency that rubbed the team of sterling outing in just concluded season both in the continent and the NPFL.

The four teams that will bear Nigeria’s flag in various CAF club Championships.

Now that the 2020 Tokyo Olympics must have come and gone however, the scandal that greeted or surrounded Nigeria’s preparations and participation continued to leave soured taste in the mouth it has also generated knocks from pundits and informed commentators have not spared all the dramatis personae that were deeply involved in preparations that led to the recent shame of Nigeria in faraway Tokyo Japan Olympic Games.

It was monumental failure in all fronts the Games where Nigeria was enmeshed in scandal of all kinds raging from drugs failure to track and field. Fact remains that millions of Naira went into so called preparations to camping including sundry.

What I have seen or heard most is Nigerian athletes tried their best we should start preparations for the next Games. Nobody has really come out to say that Sunday Dare and his team failed woefully on arrival.

Truth remains that preparations were nothing to write home about rather what took the centre stage was infighting amongst some national sports federations. Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Basketball Federation, etc, used the previous time of productivity to think out  strategies that would be edifying and improve the lots of our athletes not all but selfish instincts played its ugly role that saw Team Nigeria unprepared for the Games where only the best assembles to compete.

In this era where Nigeria is so divided and devastated by killer herders, bandits, Boko Haram name them nothing matters at all sad to note that taxpayers money that would have been channeled into better life for the citizenry goes into private pockets and nothing happens to bring such anomalies’ to the fore.

This is the era of hypocrites of the worst order in government from Muhammadu Buhari who I maintain is self-styled incorruptible man like a hunter regrettably is being heavily hunted with the men and men he surrounded himself with in the present governance in supposedly Nigeria that ought to be a paradise that is currently betrayed.

I have not seen this kind of financial recklessness, where fundamental needs of the people are never looked into. This is one government that cries loudest on corruption but condones the wrongs in the highest order.

Now nothing concrete is being said about the role Sunday Dare played in the whole Olympic fiasco in Tokyo 2020 Games. This is a man that contributed heavily in crisis that dug sports in his watch. He is said to be eyeing guber primaries in Oyo State on the platform of APC. He has not hidden such and being a member of the ruling party his sins have been forgiven.

To the highly esteemed loyal readers of this high flying all sports digital newspaper we in www.dailysportsng.com will not relent in pointing out the nonsense Sunday Dare and his paid gang dragged Nigerian sports into.

As we all knew Enyimba International FC is one club that has capacity to conquer but we will not go into all that for now. What this columnist will briefly recall is the team’s careless mistakes that caused her yet another this year’s NPFL. If you are a close follower of the NPFL you agree that instead of many steps forward it has been sadly many steps backward.

However, this year’s season was conclusive not without last minutes draw backs the notable was the Rivers United and Nasarawa United last minutes judgment that the NFF disciplinary Committee gave the Rivers United FC all three points which saw them at the second spot.

Such avoidable controversy ought to have been but a country that ensures and does important things at the last minutes, this columnist is glad that clubs that were affected one way or the order gamely allowed the sleeping dog to do so resoundingly.

Now Akwa United, Rivers United, Enyimba International and Bayelsa United would bear Nigeria’s flag in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup respectively. The truth is that they are no mean competitions and any side that wants to make head way must be prepared to the teeth and armed with very quality and exposed players plus having deep pocket in order not to be booted out in the preliminary stages.

The three other Nigerian representatives are what one can safely tagged as green horns in the terrain but that would be no limitation if they do their homework deep and concentrated. I have said it often that to succeed in this African Championship, clubs must learn to be professional as there is no level of fire brigade kind of attitudes/preparations and recruitment would save the day for any team that failed to put its home in order right from the bringing of the season which no doubt allows team to blend and play as team whether the chips are down or not.

Veteran Enyimba International FC get their acts together from the onset would breast the victorious tape. CAF Champions are no longer business as usual. Teams must do thorough recruitment of players. The draws for the preliminary stage has been pushed out by CAF last week Friday.

Nigerian clubs representing the country in CAF football club summits must be vigilant. There must be no room for excuse for failure. I have said it loudly that one thing is to struggle to win the NPFL title and entirely different ball game is to show great capacity in the CAF championships scene where the fittest survive.

Veteran football administrator Felix Anyansi Agwu, Paul Bassey and other have their hands full and must brace up the now or never battle of wits and brawn first rate African Club sides would engage each other in the tug of war where they will be chasing one round objective called ball that gives fans much excitement where they clapped and cheer when goals are scored either by fluke or by textbook.

Nigerian clubs in this year’s CAF Championships must brace up prepare well and keep eye on the ball. Lub footballAgain teams like Enyimba International FC that inconsistency denied a better place in the just concluded NPFL including CAF Championships must find an anti-dot to all these and turn a new leaf this term both in the local and international scene.

The Aba based tea lost many of her front or if you like key players like Emmanuel Anayo Iwuala to Tunisia giant, Esperance FC one believes that Felix Anyansi Agwu would or must have found good replacement so as to keep the team strongest. One thumbs the Aba side up for coming thus far in the just concluded NPFL judging from how the team was raided by Rivers United where first team players were lured out of Aba.

It will take only teams that are like cat with nine lives to survive and also compete deeply and finished third which has made Enyimba International FC as a recurring decimal in Nigerian club football. Therefore our social media handles are clicking so busy.

We at Daily Sports salute and would continue to beam our searchlight on them for the good of the round leather game. Keep shooting hard till next week as the struggle continues!!
