Four-time African Player of the Year Samuel Eto’o and some other top footballers would be honoured at the Joseph Yobo Centenary Game scheduled for May 27 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The event, planned to celebrate the retirement of the former Super Eagles captain from football, is bankrolled majorly by the Rivers State Government with support from a few other firms.
Yobo, who met with the Cameroonian superstar at his Antalyaspor club in Turkey at the weekend, confirmed that Eto’o along with Chelsea captain, John Terry, are going to be honoured for their contributions to the game.
“Yobo met with Eto’o over the weekend in Europe and the Cameroonian confirmed that he is coming to Port Harcourt to be part of the testimonial game and personally receive the award earmarked for him,” coordinator of the game Waidi Akanni said.
Akanni, an ex-international, added that the coming of Eto’o and the other superstars to Port Harcourt is already creating a buzz in the Garden City.
“Our chief host, the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, is enthusiastic about receiving the superstars coming to Port Harcourt. He has promised us that everyone coming to the Rivers State capital is going to leave with a lasting memory,” Akanni added.
