Former Nigeria international Victor Moses was threatened by a match referee during a match between Spartak Moscow and FC Ural Yekaterinburg on Saturday.
This is according to Spartak manager Domenico Tedesco, who revealed that referee Pavel Kukuyan threatened to send off Moses during the team’s 2-2 draw with Ural.
Moses, who was making his fourth appearance for the Red and Whites since joining the club from English giants Chelsea on loan, was surprisingly substituted at half-time at the Ekaterinburg Arena.
The 29-year-old defender-cum-midfielder had picked up a yellow card in the 34th minute and he was making an impact in the Russian Premier League match.
Spartak took a 2-1 lead from the spot-kick after the visitors were awarded a penalty with Moses having been fouled in the box.
“Victor got a yellow very quickly, it’s up to you whether it’s fair or not.” Tedesco said on Championat.
“Then the referee warned that any next foul is sending off, was forced to replace. He played well, earned a penalty. Physically not ready for 100.
“We are really looking forward to the winter training camp to raise the bar for physical readiness of Moses, [Alexander] Kokorin and [Oston] Urunov, who has already received his third injury.”
Moses retired from international football in August 2018 having played 38 matches for Nigeria and netted 12 goals in the process. (African Football)
