Nwakali Learning From Veteran Okazaki

Huesca attacking midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has revealed that he enjoys playing alongside and learning from veteran Japanese forward Shinji Okazaki.

Both Nwakali and Okazaki joined Huesca in 2019 from English football – the former by leaving Arsenal and the latter from Leicester City (via a brief, aborted spell with Malaga).

The 34-year-old Okazaki was a key figure in Leicester’s shock Premier League title win in 2015-16, while on the international front he has racked up well over 100 caps plus exactly 50 goals for Japan’s ‘Samurai Blue’.

Last season he was a major driving force in Huesca’s promotion from the Segunda Division to La Liga, scoring 12 goals in 36 appearances.

Nwakali had nothing but positive words to say about Okazaki in an interview with Tribalfootball.

“Playing with Okazaki has been a good experience for me,” the former Arsenal youngster said.

“He is a player with so much humility, he doesn’t complain and he feels cool with everyone in the team.

“He contributed so much to the promotion of the team. He has great qualities as a player and he is a team player.”

Both Okazaki and Nwakali will hope to feature for the ‘Azulgranas’ when they face Cadiz in a round two La Liga clash on Sunday 20 September. (African Football)
