Boateng: I Just Wanted To Have Fun At Barcelona

By Daily Sports on April 19, 2020

Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng says he only wanted to have fun during his spell with FC Barcelona.

The well-travelled attacker spent the second round of the 2018/19 season out on loan at the Spanish giants from Italian side Sassuolo.

Boateng made only three appearances in La Liga and he returned to Sassuolo at the end of the loan deal.

The 33-year-old player, who had a successful spell with Spanish club Las Palmas (scoring 10 goals in 28 La Liga games), spoke about his time in Spain.

“In Spain, I was at a point in my career that everyone was wondering how I was,” Boateng said on a Goal Africa.

“I went there without a goal, I just wanted to have fun and play football. When it becomes work, football loses a little love. I asked where Las Palmas was and when they replied Gran Canaria, I thought “but are they holidays or football?”

Boateng is currently on the books of Turkish giants Besiktas on loan from Italian club Fiorentina.

“Barcelona is fantastic, I was 32 years old, I was back on the big stages. It was unbelievable. When I signed I had the car keys with my name, then I had the press conference,” he added.

“The only player who can win all the games, is [Lionel] Messi.”

Boateng became the first Ghanaian player to play for Barcelona and he won the 2018/19 La Liga title with the club. (Goal)
