Ivory Coast Part Ways With Head Coach Kamara

By Daily Sports on February 22, 2020

The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) and head coach Ibrahim Kamara have mutually agreed to part ways.

FIF confirmed the news on Thursday with the local coach leaving the post two years after taking over the reins from Belgium’s Marc Wilmots.

As reported by Goal.com Kamara was appointed as the Elephants head coach in 2018, having previously worked with the country’s youth sides and home-based national team, who he guided to the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The 53-year-old was in charge as Ivory Coast reached the quarterfinal stage at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, before defeat on penalties to eventual champions Algeria.

Kamara was the third coach after Herve Renard’s successful Africa Cup of Nations winning spell to take charge of the West African nation, with fellow Frenchman Michel Dussuyer overseeing the country’s dismal title defence in Gabon.

The new Ivory Coast head coach’s first assignment will be back-to-back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar in March. The Elephants beat Niger in their Group K opener before a shock 2-1 loss away to Ethiopia. (Goal)
