A friendly match, on Saturday, between Vemard Africa FC Nanka, Anambra State, and Enyimba FC of Aba, to mark the unveiling of Vemard FC held at NEROS Stadium ended in a 1:1 draw.
The friendly match saw the home team scoring the first goal in the first half via striker Emma Ifezue while the top league Enyimba equalised few minutes after through Promise Anyanwu.
Vemard FC, also known as the Stallion Boys, was formed four years ago by Anambra-born Chidi Okonkwo and has used Enugu as its base until recently when it relocated to Nanka.
Speaking at the end of the match, the Chairman of Vemard Africa said that he was not completely satisfied with the outing of his players. He however expressed optimism that the players would perform optimally well both nationally and internationally.
He said: “My team is not yet where I want it to be. It is not yet up to the standard we want to keep but i will give them 50% of what I expected from them. It is still a work in progress because the team is just a month old here and the reason I chose us to play Enyimba is for me to see the strength of the team as we prepare for National League One (NLO) which will kick off in a month time.
“We don’t necessarily need to add more players because what we have on ground is good, just for the Coach to do his job and by God’s grace, we will be in Nigeria National League, (NNL) next season.”
Personalities that graced by the match included the owner of NEROS Stadium, Chief Pauly Emenike; the duo of ex-Super Eagles players, Taribo West and Victor Ikpeba; the traditional ruler of the host community, Nanka, Igwe Godwin Ezeilo; and ex-Rangers International footballer/former FA Chairman in the state, Victor Nwangwu, among others.
Highlight of the event was a performance by popular Nigeria music sensation, Slow Dog. •Source: News Express. PHOTO: Vermard Africa FC players receiving the pre-match handshake from Nanka traditional ruler, Igwe Godwin Ezeilo . . . on Saturday. PHOTO: PAMELA EBOH / News Express.
