The newly elected Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Comrade Emmanuel Akpan, has visited Akwa United’s training ground on his first official outing after his election.
Comrade Akpan, while interacting with the Chairman of Akwa United, Elder Paul Bassey, and other top officials of the club, said he was at the training ground to wish the team success in their NPFL match against Enugu Rangers coming up today, Sunday, February 9, 2020 in Uyo and to assure the team of the association’s continued support.
“Today, I decided to come around and see how Akwa United are preparing for Sunday’s match against Enugu Rangers FC. It’s my first official outing after my election as Chairman of SWAN in the state. I wish to state that my administration will work assiduously to ensure we have a vibrant association and promote quality sports reportage.
“Akwa United are our brand and I’m impressed with the progress of the team. I want to wish the team success on Sunday and success in all their endeavours,” Akpan said.
Earlier in his remarks, Elder Bassey, who doubles as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, had congratulated Comrade Akpan on his victory at the polls and tasked him to bring his wealth of experience to bear in repositioning the Association to ensure it portrays sports in the state in good light.
He said: “On behalf of Akwa United FC, I want to congratulate you on your victory as the Chairman at the just concluded SWAN elections. We thank you for coming around to give us your support and for wishing us well.
“Akwa United have become a positive factor in Nigerian club football circles. Our international status is high up there; we have played at the continental level twice and we will continue to do our best to bring honour to this state.
“I hope your administration will usher in positive ideas that will drive the association forward. We need a breath of fresh air in SWAN that will add value to sports in Akwa Ibom.
“Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration has invested a lot in sports development and such stories should be projected in public space through SWAN.
“Akwa United are ready to work with your administration and you can count on our usual support at any time.”
The Chairman of SWAN was accompanied during the visit by the Special Assistant to the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports on Media, Comrade Edidiong Stephen.
