SWAN Week: Ogene FM, Daily Times For Table Tennis Finals

Ikem Asika of Ogene FM, Awka, has qualified for the finals of the Table Tennis Competition of the maiden Anambra State Sports Writers Association (SWAN) Week and will slug it out with Philip Balepo of Daily Times.

In the Scrabble event, a former national officer of SWAN and a renown script writer, Tai Obasi, defeated Tony Oji of Orient Daily with 284 against 258 points to get to the final.

In the second game, Uche Ezeadigwe of Orient Daily scored 258 points to beat Okey Maduforo of New Telegraph to qualify for Scrabble finals.

Asika defeated Okey Onuegbu of Blueprint Newspapers 2-0 while Balepo had the better part of Chimezie Anaso of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) 2-0 to reach the finals.

The football match between SWAN selected sides ended one goal apiece in a 5-aside game.

Speaking at the event held at H-Place, Amenyi, Awka, the Technical Director of Anambra Table Tennis Association, Bonny Akunna, hailed the sports writers for their beautiful display despite not being professional players.

Akunna, who provided the Table Tennis board and bats, said that H-Place will continue to promote Table Tennis and is ready to partner SWAN to grow the game.
