CHAN 2020 Disaster: NFF Waiting For Eagles’ Technical Report, Says Vice President Akinwunmi

By Obaseki Anthony on October 22, 2019

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) First Vice President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, has disclosed that the Federation will wait for the reports of the Super Eagles Team B technical crew on why the team failed to reach the 2020 Championship of African Nation (CHAN) before deciding on the next line of action.

The Imama Amakapabo boys were dumped out of the race for next year’s CHAN to be hosted by Cameroon following their 3-4 aggregate defeat to Togo in the qualifiers.

Asked for comments on last weekend’s disappointing 2-0 second leg win at Agege Stadium Lagos, which wasn’t enough to guarantee qualification, Akinwunmi said he was not willing to speak on the future of the team’s technical crew.

He said: “When you interview somebody immediately after a loss, he may say things that he shouldn’t say. He may say things out of anger, out of being very upset and I’m not that kind of person.

“I would like to hold my view, and like the technical committee to brief us and we take it from there; otherwise, I would say things that I shouldn’t say. These things happen but it’s unfortunate.”

Nigeria will be missing from the tournament for the third time after being absent at Cote d’Ivoire 2009 and Sudan 2011.
