Rangers International FC’s mercurial midfielder Chiamaka Madu has described the second leg, first round Total/CAF Confederation Cup 2019/2020 tie against Gabonese side A.S. Pelican as a must-win game so as to realise the dreams of doing better than they did last term in the same competition.
In a chat, the former Sharks FC star who has blossomed since pitching his tent with the ‘Flying Antelopes’ for over three seasons said that despite his absence in the set-up for now due to injury sustained at the end of season NPFL playoff in Lagos, he has strong belief in his colleagues doing the needful to qualify for the next round of the competition.
“I think the game is a must win game for us if we must qualify for the next round of the competition. The expectations of our fans all over the world is to get a win against Pelican of Gabon which I am sure we are prepared to get due to the high intensity training by our coaches.
“By the special grace of God, we shall earn our win on Sunday in Enugu,” said Madu.
On the motivation level in the team, Chiamaka said: “I think we need to get to the group stage. We need to go a step better than what we did last season. That is enough motivation for the entire team couple with the ever present management and government to answer to any of
our needs towards achieving our targets in both domestic and continental engagements this season.”
The midfield maestro said that the team has put the 1-2 loss in Libreville behind them and focused on getting the result that will propel the seven-time Nigeria league champions to the next round. He assured his fans that he would be back on the pitch soon enough to help push for the club’ targets this term, stressing: “Chiamaka Madu is gradually getting back to full fitness and I think it’s better I come back stronger than rushing into the game. By God’s grace, it is going to be very soon. I really appreciate the efforts put by management in my victory.”
