Nigerian Coach Cancels Coaching Course in South Africa Over Xenophobic Attacks; Top Latvian Club Visits Nigeria To Pick Players

By Daily Sports on September 5, 2019

Appalled by the violent attacks on African nationals by xenophobic South Africans in that country, Nigerian youth coach Nnamdi Onuigbo of IB Sports Dream Academy has decided not to further his coaching education in South Africa as he had planned to do.

Onuigbo was a part of the Nigeria ‘Dream Team’ that won bronze at the Rio Olympics in Brazil in 2016.

“I’m cancelling the coaching course I was to embark on in South Africa. Watching blacks killing blacks is appalling. We are our own biggest problem in Africa,” Onuigbo stated.

On a brighter note for Onuigbo, one of his protégés Keneth Otabor has been recalled to the Golden Eaglets team.

A report monitored from SCORENigeria reads: “Energetic and power-shooting attacking midfielder Otabor, who is on a school scholarship in Japan, was dropped literally at the last moment to the U17 AFCON in Tanzania.

“The player of IB Sports Dreams of Abuja featured for the Eaglets at the invitational tournament in Turkey leading up to the U17 AFCON in Tanzania.

“SCORENigeria sighted his invitational letter dated August 29, 2019, asking the principal of Kochi Chuo High School to release Otabor for the Eaglets training camp in Abuja.

“The Eaglets are also scheduled to feature in another invitational tournament in Turkey next month preparatory to the World Cup in Brazil.”

Onuigbo is a distinguished coach with a fine pedigree in the youth football circles of Nigeria. Another product of his Adeniyi Oluwatimileyin is an integral part of the Golden Eaglets while youngster and dazzling winger Gift Evbuomwan who shone for Nigeria in an Under-16 international invitational tournament in Japan a few months ago is a player of Onuigbo’s IB Sports Dreams.
