How Bendel Insurance Won Edo Aiteo FA Cup

By Daily Sports on April 30, 2019

On an evening NPFL side Bendel Insurance struggled to unlock the defence of amateur side De Leo FC of Benin City, lady luck smiled in the end for the Benin Arsenal as they won the Edo State Aiteo FA Cup on penalty shootout.

The final match was played at the sports complex of the Ambrose Ali University in the town of Ekpoma in Edo State on Sunday, July 28.

Insurance met a brickwall of a well-coordinated De Leo defence, with former Nigerian youth international goalkeeper Ambrose Vanzekin at his defence organisation best.

De Leo caused a stir in the semi-final when they shocked overwhelming favourites for the final BJ Foundation 2-1.

Having secured qualification to the national Federations Cup, the confident De Leo side played without pressure to stifle all Insurance threw at them.

In the ensuing penalty shootout Insurance ’keeper Endurance Obasogie outshone Vanzekin by saving 3 penalty kicks to help his side win 5-4.

Vanzekin however emerged MVP of the tournament following a generally stellar performance that saw him conceding just one goal in open play throughout the FA Cup.
